Frequently Asked Questions:
What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care (DPC) is a direct payment arrangement with your primary care provider to provide care for acute and chronic medical conditions. This model is very convenient, efficient and avoids many hassles that we all encounter in traditional practices. Membership is a flat monthly fee, similar to gym memberships or Netflix.
Do you accept insurance? Do I still need insurance?
We do not accept insurance. We will help you utilize your insurance for labs, imaging and medications. You can also choose to use our cash pay options.
DPC is not a replacement for health insurance. It replaces most of what you'd use your primary care benefits for. Also being a part of the DPC helps cut costs on going to less specialists and in-house generic pharmacy benefits. Also, being able to get into your provider when you're sick you don't need to spend money at the Urgent Care, when you can just reach out here to help!
We recommend pairing your membership with a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) or catastrophic coverage for hospitalizations, surgeries, and specialists. Many members find this combination saves them significant money each year while improving their day-to-day care. Ask us about some companies we have worked with.
What does the fee actually cover?
Your membership covers office visits, same- or next-day appointments, direct access to your provider via phone, text, or email, telehealth visits, and many in-office procedures. Labs, imaging, and medications are available at deeply discounted wholesale prices — often 80–90% less than retail. For the full list see here.
Can I use my HSA or FSA?
Yes. DPC membership fees are generally eligible for HSA and FSA spending. HSA now cover up to $150/ month for their enrollment. We recommend confirming with your plan administrator, but most members use their HSA/FSA to cover the monthly fee with pre-tax dollars, making the effective cost even lower.
Can I come if I have Tricare, Medicare or Medicaid?
Yes, we are "opted-out" meaning that we are able to provide care, but cannot bill Tricare, Medicare or Medicaid. However, this also means patients cannot submit to these insurances for reimbursement. On that note, not all traditional insurances will reimburse these fees either.
We also help you use these insurance plans to cover your labs, imaging and medications when appropriate.
What if I need a specialist or be hospitalized?
We will coordinate specialist referrals and communicate directly with other providers on your behalf. For hospitalizations, you'll use your insurance. Your Wellness Path can help you navigate the process and stay informed throughout your care. That continuity is something traditional practices rarely offer.
Is there a long-term contract?
Not at all. It is a month-to-month contract where you can cancel at any time with a simple notification. We believe the care you get with us will be so exceptional you will never want to leave.
How is DPC different from Concierge?
Concierge practices often charge $2,000–$5,000+ per year and still bill insurance on top of that fee. DPC is more affordable, typically $50–$150/month, with transparent, all-inclusive pricing and no insurance billing at all. The personal access and relationship are similar; the cost structure is very different and far more accessible.
